Haven't had a chance to update my videos lately, I've been pretty swamped cranking out spots and directing newscasts.  Here's one I finished today after getting the script end of day Wednesday.  What do you think?

West Side Honda is my favorite car company to do work for.  They usually give us some bullet points and say do whatever you want.  It wasn't always like that, but slowly but surely we've given them a different look then all the other local car ads.  This one was done a while back, but I wanted to get it on here.

This spot for West Side takes us back before we were given free reign and I think it was after this spot they turned it over to us...I think.  I remember getting a drawing on a napkin of how the sales guy and John wanted the screen split up and that's about it.  I have slept a time or two since then so forgive me.

Sometimes I am asked to recreate spots that were created out of house, I didn't mind recreating this one cause I like the Vols and whoever did it first did a great job with a short ID.  This ended up almost exactly like the spot I was given.  Of course, I had to put a little extra that only I and the original designer would notice.

Some projects don't get a whole lot of time.  This was one of those projects.  I had a couple hours to sort through and color correct pictures, move em around in AE and make something halfway decent.  I always try to put a little something unexpected even when time is tight so I cut up a picture of their building.  Not sure if they liked it, never heard.  It didn't come back for re-edits, so I guess it's okay.

This client said they wanted to catch lightning in a bottle.  I don't know how to do that, so I started chopping the video up in small little bits, making some freeze frames, adding some overlays and using lots of jump cuts.  I don't get to use jump cuts a whole lot, so it was fun to mix it up.  The client wasn't to sure about it because it's not filled with all the normal stuff you see on local commercials, but it grew on them.

It's not often I get to go out on shoots anymore.  I'm usually locked in the edit suite.  As editors we sometimes forget about all the variables that may pop up while creating local commercials out in the field.  It was cool to actually get to speak with the client too, as often times the editor is the last person in the string of communications as to what has been discussed and what the client is actually wanting.  I'm sure that had I not been there to actually pick their brains the spot would have looked much different.
